Seeing the Light

Seeing the Light:  Man of Hoy

(On Glass Art by Emma Bradley)

'Glass eats light' - Bertil Vallien

It is your brilliance which seduced me.

You swallow light, hold it,

allow visions through the cracks

in your coruscated sides.

I can see forces move inside you:

traces of violence, trauma,

like wisps of smoke,

or molten minerals.

I lay my ear to your cold skin

and listen.

Your language is magma.

You talk of fire and ice,

alchemical transformations,

Forces beyond me.

Alone up here,

in the void of sky and sea,

you make me feel my place in the universe:

a dot.
