Stephanie Green's Literary Festival Photo Journal

                        Edinburgh 2007

or 'The Edinburgh International Book Festival' to give its proper title.

Quite a contrast to rural Hay, as you'll see. A city patch of lawn surrounded by wrought iron railings in the centre of the  elegant Georgian architecture of Charlotte Square - a not too intrusive sound of traffic (instead of birds and sheep) though occasional police or ambulance sirens can drown out readings.

Open air cafes, or cafes  under canvas, cafes in tent  bookshops. Sofas much in evidence, even on the grass,

though some prefer the grass itself.                            There's always the glitzy Spiegeltent .

As for sartorial elegance, city-style, wellies are not in evidence.  Why not wear high-heels on the grass?

It seems there is room for non-fashionista, individualistic expression too, though being Edinburgh,

with a certain amount of restraint.
